Account Executive, Food & Beverage

Berk Communications, recently named a finalist for 2020 Outstanding Small Agency of the Year by PRWeek, has an exciting opportunity for an Account Executive in our growing food & beverage practice. We are seeking someone with relevant agency experience across the food & beverage category including consumer brands, restaurants and liquor brands. This role will require creative ideation, attention to detail, great writing skills and a proven track record of generating consistent and high-impact earned media coverage in both traditional and non-traditional media outlets.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Proactive media relations – pitching traditional and online media, developing relationships and uncovering new outlets  

  • Drafting press materials 

  • Creating and updating media reports  

  • Maintaining updated grids with deadlines  

  • Staying current with new media trends and incorporating as appropriate 

  • Serve as a key day-to-day client contact 

  • Manage multiple projects from concept to completion on time and within budget 

  • Proactively generate new ideas and opportunities to ensure client program success 

  • Maintain relationships with media and secure pro-active publicity for clients 

  • Manage development of press materials 

  • Moderate media interviews; assist with media training for clients; initiate implementation of media events such as press conferences, briefings and media tours 

  • Instruct entry-level staff in the areas of media relations and writing/document creation 

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 2-4 years of public relations experience (agency experience preferred) 

  • Strong media relations skills and established network of contacts 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Can work independently and within a team

Account Director, Corporate Communications

Berk Communications is an award-winning public relations firm that features a roster of category-leading brands across a variety of consumer verticals, including sports and lifestyle, food and beverage, travel and tourism, and cannabis. As a primary senior counsel, we are seeking someone with agency experience in corporate communications, technology and professional services. This role will require delivering executive-level PR strategies, corporate narratives, and consistent high-impact media coverage. In addition to being an excellent writer and a well-connected media relations executive, the ideal candidate should have superior client service acumen, experience in managing account teams and budgets as well as have proven skills with regards to new business pursuits.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Manages overall quality of account staff work and client satisfaction levels

  • Acts as senior counsel in conjunction with agency leadership

  • Serves as day-to-day account lead to several clients

  • Manages and develops group(s) of account teams and junior staff

  • Secure executive profiles and feature coverage for business narratives 

  • Flawless execution of earned media relations work, including developing media lists, reporter briefing sheets, media audits, well-crafted pitches and strategic media recommendations that integrate paid, earned, social and owned media

  • Lead local, regional, trade and select national business and consumer media outreach

  • Support organic and new-business development efforts

  • Develops the appropriate strategies and collateral for new business presentations

  • Brings information, experience and industry intelligence to the agency

  • Develops comprehensive executive eminence programs

  • Help supervise and mentor junior staff by motivating, coaching and consistently providing feedback

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Requires 8+ years serving in a full-time role either in a public relations agency or the communications department of a company in a relevant industry

  • Proven ability to secure feature coverage for executives and business narratives

  • Experience managing staff across multi-dimensional accounts (both up and down)

  • Excellent process and organizational skills; attention to detail a must as this primary focus is staying ahead of client and keeping the team focused on meeting deliverables

  • Quality control for junior staff work product

  • Track record of meeting deadlines with a multi-client workload

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining client interaction on a daily basis with client and help the account team retain and grow the business

  • Ability to “get smart quickly”- understand and learn different business sectors swiftly

  • Strong track record of generating targeted impactful earned coverage

  • Ability to find creative angles and create highly targeted media strategies and pitches)

  • Demonstrated proficiency in media writing and proactive media relations

  • Superior oral and written communication skills; strong proofreading and editing ability

  • Love to work with teams to generate original ideas for creative campaigns/media activations and helping integrate them into plans

  • Have contributed to new business processes and proposals
